JOB SUMMARY

AGLC is seeking to fill an Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Compliance Investigator (Casino) position. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced investigator and compliance professional who is passionate about identifying risk, analyzing complex information, and contributing to a strong regulatory environment.

 

As an AML Compliance Investigator (Casino), you will play a key role in supporting AGLC's regulatory oversight of Alberta's casino and gaming operations. This position is focused on identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks that may impact the integrity, , and regulatory compliance of AML in casino facilities.

 

In this role, you will conduct complex investigations involving patrons, gaming activities, and operational compliance matters. You will verify patron-related risks, assess compliance with gaming legislation and policies, identify emerging threats to gaming integrity, and collaborate with casino operators, law enforcement agencies, and regulatory stakeholders. Your work will directly support a fair, safe, and accountable gaming environment while maintaining public confidence in Alberta's gaming industry.

 

The ideal candidate is an experienced investigator with a background in law enforcement, regulatory enforcement, intelligence, or compliance who enjoys conducting hands-on investigations, assessing risk, and working directly with stakeholders to support gaming integrity and public confidence in Alberta's gaming industry.

 

 

What You'll Do!

  • Conduct complex investigations involving, casino operators/operations, patron activities and potential breaches of gaming legislation, regulations, policies, and licensing requirements.
  • Analyze investigative information to identify trends, patterns, compliance concerns, and risks impacting gaming integrity and regulatory compliance.
  • Assess compliance with applicable gaming legislation, AGLC policies, operating procedures, and regulatory requirements within casino and gaming environments.
  • Conduct patron risk assessments and verify information through interviews, records reviews, surveillance information, and other investigative techniques.
  • Perform on-site compliance inspections and investigations within casino facilities to assess adherence to regulatory requirements and identify operational risks.
  • Collaborate with casino staff, surveillance teams, law enforcement agencies, and other stakeholders to investigate incidents and resolve compliance concerns.
  • Evaluate patron behavior, exclusion matters, integrity concerns, and other issues that may pose regulatory, reputational, or operational risk to gaming facilities.
  • Prepare thorough, evidence-based investigative reports, findings, and recommendations for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with gaming operators, government agencies, financial institutions, law enforcement partners, and regulatory bodies to strengthen compliance oversight and mitigate risk.
  • Support the development and continuous improvement of AML policies, procedures, compliance programs, and risk-management strategies.
  • Monitor emerging AML trends, typologies, and regulatory developments to enhance investigative and compliance practices.
  • Promote a culture of integrity, accountability, and inclusion by applying an objective, fair, and unbiased approach to all investigations.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Post-secondary diploma in a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in a regulatory compliance, law enforcement, investigations, intelligence, , gaming compliance, or a related investigative environment.
  • Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying legislation, regulations, policies, and procedures, including knowledge of regulatory enforcement principles, investigative practices, and the Criminal Code of Canada.
  • Strong investigative, analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex information and make sound decisions.
  • Proven ability to assess patron-related risks and make sound investigative decisions based on available information and evidence.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare detailed reports and present findings clearly to a variety of audiences.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assets include:
    • Experience in law enforcement, regulatory enforcement, or intelligence-based investigations.
    • Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) designation.
    • Experience with FINTRAC compliance, reporting requirements, or AML compliance programs.
