ABOUT LIQUOR & CANNABIS

The Liquor & Cannabis Division resides within Business Development and supports innovative and progressive developments in AGLC’s liquor and cannabis businesses. AGLC is responsible for managing the supply chains of both lines of business in Alberta and all aspects of AGLC’s role in ensuring product fulfillment to downstream private retail enterprises. For Cannabis this includes evaluating incoming products, inventory management, and ensuring the highest quality of products are provided to Albertans. For Liquor this includes registration of liquor products, onboarding and supporting Alberta liquor manufacturers, and performing customs clearances for all liquor imported into the province. The division ensures adherence to applicable federal and provincial legislation and works closely with manufacturers, suppliers, agencies, licensed producers, liquor and cannabis licensees, and related associations. The division is supported by two branches: Stakeholder Management and Supply Chain & Warehousing.

JOB SUMMARY

Please note: This is a temporary position ending on or before April 1, 2028. Multiple positions available!

 

We are seeking 2 Category Management Specialists to support the development and execution of the B2B assortment strategy for the Cannabis business line. This role is responsible for supporting informed purchasing decisions to ensure the product assortment aligns with customer needs, business priorities, and financial objectives.

 

Reporting to the Manager, Category Management, you will contribute to the development and implementation of category management strategies and support the ongoing performance review of products against established key metrics. This includes analyzing data, supporting product selection and lifecycle decisions, and ensuring the assortment remains aligned with overall business goals. You will work closely with internal partners and Licensed Producers to build and adjust assortment strategies in response to business needs and market dynamics.

 

To be successful in this role, you will bring a strong understanding of key performance metrics, including sales, margins, monthly P&L, and forecasting. You possess strong analytical and financial acumen, sound business judgment, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment. You are comfortable working both independently and collaboratively, and you communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

 

  • An undergraduate degree in business or a related field
  • Minimum 4-5 years’ experience in merchandising buying or category management
  • Experienced negotiation skills and relationship management skills
