JOB SUMMARY

Do you thrive in social settings and have a keen eye for detail?  If so, this opportunity could be the perfect fit for you!  The AGLC is looking for a proactive, enthusiastic, and professional Inspector to join our dynamic Regulatory Services Division.

 

As an AGLC Inspector, you will play a vital role in ensuring the integrity of licensed liquor and cannabis establishments.  This includes conducting inspections and investigations to ensure compliance with the Gaming, Liquor & Cannabis Act, Gaming, Liquor & Cannabis Regulation, Part VII of the Criminal Code, and AGLC policies.  You’ll monitor the responsible sale and service of alcohol and cannabis, verify patron ID for those appearing under 25 years old, and ensure compliance with industry regulations.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct inspections and regulatory investigations of liquor/cannabis facilities during all operating hours.
  • Investigate complaints and non-compliance issues, prepare detailed reports and provide evidence at all Board Hearings.
  • Educate and train licensees and registrants regarding compliance practices and regulatory policies.
  • Respond to inquiries from the public, licensees, government departments, and regulatory agencies.
  • Ensure all licensees and registrants are in compliance with legislative and policy guidelines.

 

Upon completion of two years of service, employees are eligible for an Inspector 2 classification with a salary range of $70,115.04 to $91,958.13

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Completion of a post-secondary diploma or degree in criminal justice or a related field
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in inspection, investigation or other regulatory compliance or
    • Minimum five (5) years experience in a management position within the restaurant/bar industry.
  • Computer proficiency to prepare reports and manage case files.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with co-workers, management, industry stakeholders, and the public.
  • A valid, non-graduated driver's license and dependable transportation.
  • The ability to work flexible shifts, including late nights and weekends, and occasional overnight travel.
  • Strong communication skills, judgement, and critical thinking skills with the ability to effectively resolve conflicts and conduct thorough investigations.
  • General knowledge of the Criminal Code, the Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Act, the Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Regulation, and Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC) policies and procedures is an asset.
  • Bachelor of Business Administration or related field, Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice is considered an asset.
  • Basic knowledge of accounting and case management systems is an asset.
