JOB SUMMARY
The Investigations Branch is seeking a skilled and motivated professional to join the Gaming Investigations Unit North as an Investigator.
Reporting to the Supervisor, Gaming Investigations North, the Investigator will conduct complex investigations and collaborate with internal and external partners to support lawful gaming operations across the province.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Leading and supporting investigations into offences related to Part VII of the Criminal Code (e.g., fraud, theft, forgery, cheating at play), as well as offences involving contraband tobacco, cannabis-related activities, and proceeds of crime. Investigations may also involve applicable provincial legislation, including the Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Act, Fuel Tax Act, Tobacco Tax Act, Tourism Levy Act, and others.
- Preparing clear, evidence-based reports, court briefs, and search warrants. Swearing in criminal charges and providing testimony in court proceedings and administrative hearings.
- Conducting security and compliance reviews at gaming facilities, including casinos, Racing Entertainment Centres, Gaming Entertainment Centres, and bingo operations, to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and best practices.
- Building and maintaining effective working relationships with RCMP, municipal police services, provincial and federal partners, and industry stakeholders to support coordinated enforcement and intelligence-sharing efforts.
- Contributing to multi-agency investigations targeting illegal activities that impact lawful gaming, such as unlicensed gaming operations, bookmaking, and related criminal enterprises.
- Partnering with internal teams to support compliance with the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act and associated regulations. Assist in identifying, deterring, and reporting suspicious activities in accordance with FINTRAC requirements and organizational policies.
SKILLS & ABILITIES

Post‐secondary diploma in law enforcement/ investigations or criminology.

5+ years of experience in regulatory inspections and investigations including:

Surveillance and undercover operations

Open-source investigations

Preparing judicial authorizations, search warrants, and court briefs

Case management and note-taking

Risk-effective decision making

Active Peace Officer or Police Officer status or currently working toward certification.

Strong understanding of:

Peace Officer Act and Regulations

Criminal Code case law and legislative interpretation

Rules of evidence and court procedures

Investigative techniques and surveillance methods

Investigative competencies such as:

Search warrant drafting

Investigative Skills Education Program (ISEP) 200 or 300 considered an asset

A valid Alberta Drivers Operator’s License and willingness to travel throughout Alberta, including occasional overnight stays.
