JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking an experienced and motivated individual to join the Investigations Branch as a Supervisor, Tobacco Enforcement Unit in our Regulatory Services Division. This position is based in the Calgary office and reports to the Senior Manager.

 

As a Supervisor, you will oversee the hands-on field operations of the tobacco enforcement program and investigations. Responsibilities include supervising Investigators, ensuring compliance with the Peace Officer Act and Regulations and policy, and liaising with law enforcement and government agencies. You will also conduct and supervise criminal code and regulatory investigations related to smuggling, diversion of tobacco products, and violations of the Alberta Tobacco Tax Act.

 

Additional duties include:

  • Completing performance evaluations for direct reports
  • Coordinating branch training
  • Participating in internal/external committees
  • Acting in the absence of the Senior Manager
  • Supporting gaming and cannabis investigations when required or directed

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Post-secondary diploma in law enforcement/investigations or criminology, plus 5 years of investigative experience
  • Clear working knowledge of illegal gaming and illicit cannabis investigations
  • Supervisory experience in investigations
      • Ability to motivate, guide, and develop others
      • Performance management, skilled in setting goals, providing feedback, and conducting evaluations
      • Delegation and prioritization, ability to assign tasks and manage workloads, shifts, and allocating resources
  • Search Warrant writing and document preparation
  • Previous court and/or hearing experience
  • Problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Ability to obtain Alberta Peace Officer status
  • Valid Alberta Operator’s License; travel required
  • Prior Police Officer/Peace Officer experience considered an asset
