IT proudly provides the computer systems, security, IT services and governance that support AGLC’s businesses, including the operation & support of mission critical gaming, liquor and corporate systems running on a variety of computing platforms. IT ensures the stability and performance of a Local/Wide Area Network, which supports over 1,200 gaming locations and more than 2,000 computers/tablets, 150 physical and 2,000 virtual servers distributed across six corporate offices, casinos, RECs and bingo halls. IT provides leadership in the use of information technology, data and systems to help the AGLC achieve business goals and objectives.

JOB SUMMARY

The Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Systems Analyst to join our Application Development and Support branch. This position is responsible for providing leadership in the support of information systems and related initiatives, focusing on AGLC gaming systems and other application solutions. The successful candidate will manage all phases of application management, solution delivery, configuration, and support of complex applications and product suites. This role requires a high level of expertise, adaptability, and the ability to learn new technologies quickly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Management and Leadership:
    • Prepare and review project definitions and plans for system or database development and support projects.
    • Develop and foster teamwork and communication within the team and with other teams and clients.
    • Ensure projects follow approved development methodologies and design standards.
    • Perform Quality Assurance (QA) reviews and allocate resources to projects.
    • Estimate resource requirements and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Monitor, report, and resolve project progress and issues.
  • Staff Supervision and Development:
    • Assess training and development needs and develop training plans.
    • Provide mentoring and prepare performance appraisals.
    • Design assignments to challenge and develop staff abilities and skills.
  • Systems Planning:
    • Assist in developing strategic and tactical information systems plans.
    • Maintain knowledge of business programs, policies, and trends in information processing technology

  • Systems Development:
    • Consult with clients and project staff to determine project variables.
    • Perform and assist in all phases of project work and preparation of deliverables.
    • Perform Quality Assurance on deliverables and review project effort.
  • Change & Problem Management:
    • Consult with clients to establish and review priorities for change requests.
    • Maintain current request information in the Request Management system.
    • Balance staff workloads and resolve issues.
  • Issue Resolution, Evaluations, Recommendations, and Presentations:
    • Negotiate with clients and staff for issue resolution.
    • Provide written and verbal recommendations and decisions on issues.
    • Perform product evaluations and make recommendations on projects and products.
    • Prepare and deliver comprehensive reports and presentations.
  • Vendor Relationship Management
    • Working with vendors to ensure service delivery for the gaming systems and related applications. 

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Minimum of a Technical Computer Systems Technology diploma from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in programming and systems analysis.
  • At least two years of project management and supervisory experience.
  • Strong project management and supervisory skills.
  • Proficiency in coaching and employee mentoring.
  • Expertise in planning, estimating, and resourcing.
  • Current technical knowledge of information systems hardware and software.
  • Knowledge of systems development and application life-cycle.
  • Strong consulting, reporting, and presentation skills.
  • Assets include:
    • Proven detailed experience with gaming business processes.
    • Knowledge of department operations.
    • Technical problem-solving skills.
